My cat had to be taken to the veterinary hospital suddenly Thurs night (23/8/07) as he couldn't urinate, it turned out he had a blocked bladder, so they kept him in.
They attatched a catheter to him for 2 days to drain his bladder. He is now home 3 days later (26/8/07) and is urinating again, but only tiny dribbles, and he's going to the litter tray loads more often (every 10 minutes). He is also being 'over clean' and washing his bits after every tiny dribble of wee which he didn't do before either.
I wondered if anyone else's cat has had a blocked bladder, and how they recovered from it ... whether their cat had similar symptoms to mine after etc.....?
I'd greatly appreciate any feedback anyone might have on this....
Many thanks, worried cat owner! (Linda)

Bladder Blockage
My cat, Simon, had a similar experience with bladder blockage about 2 years ago and came through it just fine. We had changed his diet and luckily the other 2 cats liked the same food. Unfortunately though this morning he woke up with the same symptoms again, which the vet had warned that it might come back , only he didn't quite know when, so I will be going back to the vet with my precious Simon, who looks alot like your black cat by the way. Just keep a good thought and he should be fine, but bear in mind in could happen again, unfortunately.

Hi, thanks for your reply. Sorry to hear that Simon has got a blocked bladder again
it's so sad to see them go through it. My cat came home from the vets 3 days later. It took him a few days to get back to urinating normally, as at first he was going every 10 minutes then it gradually got less and less. He had 2 lots of antibiotics to clear it up which we hid in tuna! The vet has now recommended that we give him filtered water as the water in the area is hard, and that we also give him a urinary specialist food which we have also done - to try and prevent it coming back again. Fingers crossed it doesn't but the vet bills sure are a pain!! I don't know if you have pet insurance? I do but you still have to find the money to pay the bill until you get it back from your insurer!
Oh well, here's wishing Simon a quick recovery. Hope he's ok
x
