If you decide not to use your dog/bitch or tom/queen for breeding, it is highly recommended for your pets benifit that you get your pet neutered.
The main reasons for having your dog castrated

To prevent hypersexuality

Discuss with your vet when is the best time to have your dog or bitch neutered. Some vets advise this as soon as they are 6 months old for bitches, to stop them getting pregnant. Others may prefer to wait until after the dogs first season. For cats Both male and female cats can be neutered from the age of 4 months (also be advised by your vet).
Those on low income such as Job Seekers' Allowance, Housing Benefit, state pension or Income Support there is an assisted and Subsidised Neutering Schemes and or Voucher for neueting cats form the cats protection league
