To celebrate UK Older Person Day on 1st October, leading veterinary charity, PDSA is encouraging the more mature animal lover to have a go at volunteering.

The common assumption that most charity shop volunteers are retired is simply not true. In fact, a recent survey of PDSA volunteers revealed that a quarter are under 36-years-old.

The survey also reveals that 72 per cent are 65 and under. So the charity is encouraging more people in their golden years to step forward and help raise funds for pets in need of vets.

PDSA Head of Volunteering, Janet Compton, says, "We are appealing for enthusiastic people of all ages to come forward and donate some of their time to help sick and injured pets. From teenagers to octogenarians, everyone is welcome at PDSA."

"Volunteering for PDSA is extremely rewarding and no previous experience is required. Some volunteers discover skills they never knew they had - such as a head for figures, a perfect sales pitch or a flair for creating eye-catching displays. An old dog can always learn new tricks…"

Janet continues, "As well as helping a good cause, volunteering is an excellent way to keep busy and make new friends, while boosting confidence. To find out about PDSA volunteering opportunities in your local area, please call 0800 854 194 today or visit www.pdsa.org.uk/volunteers

PDSA is the first UK-wide charity to hold the Investing in Volunteers quality mark awarded by Volunteering England. This commitment to supporting volunteering recognises best practice and benchmarks working with volunteers against a national standard.
