National Microchipping Month

June sees the fifth annual National Microchipping Month organised by the Kennel Club, with special efforts this year from veterinary surgeries who will be holding microchipping clinics in their local area to support the campaign.

Microchipping clinics are part of a nationwide effort to encourage and promote responsible pet ownership through microchipping as the best method of identifying pets in case they go missing. They provide a great opportunity for pet owners to develop their understanding of the process and the support and services available to them and their pets through Petlog, the Kennel Club’s Pet Identification Service.

This year’s campaign is supported by Petlog Premium, and is set to be bigger than ever with the introduction of Petlog Premium Lifetime Membership, making it easier for pet owners to keep their contact details up-to-date. This is so crucial in our ever changing society, where people’s lives are busier and more people move house, in order to help reunite lost pets with their owners. With membership to Petlog Premium, owners are offered an online service to update their records at any time, anywhere, with no extra charges. There are also other microchipping databases available. Your vet can advise you on the different companies. What’s important is that your pet is microchipped by a vet, using a company with a well maintained database and that you keep your details up to date if your circumstances change.

Marc Abraham, resident vet on Channel 4’s The New Paul O’Grady Show, says, “With so many pets going missing every year, we really try and promote responsible dog ownership through Petlog Premium. The responsibility falls on the owners to keep track of their pets, and Petlog Premium is a safer and more effective way then the standard collar, and will stay in place for life.

“Whether they’re lost, stolen, strayed, or even involved in an accident, this is the only reliable way of ensuring your pet has a chance of getting back home to you safely.”

Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Secretary, said, “So many people are still unaware of how simple, effective and necessary it is to microchip their pet. It’s not until their pet goes missing that they really become aware of the value of the service they have available to them. That’s why National Microchipping Month is so important to the Kennel Club. It promotes responsible pet ownership and raises awareness of how often pets do go missing and how easy microchipping really is.”
