Now that the children are going back to school, mums and dads with a few spare hours a week are being urged to volunteer for leading veterinary charity, PDSA, to banish the back to school blues.
PDSA Head of Volunteering, Janet Compton, says, "We are appealing for enthusiastic people to come forward and donate some of their time to help sick and injured pets, especially mums or dads who are at a loose end while their children are at school or university.
"Whether your toddler has just started nursery or your teenager has flown the nest to begin a university course - the home can feel very quiet without them. To avoid 'empty nest syndrome', why not try volunteering for PDSA?"
Volunteering for PDSA is extremely rewarding and no previous experience is required. Some volunteers discover skills they never knew they had - such as a head for figures, a perfect sales pitch or a flair for creating eye-catching displays.
Janet continues, "As well as helping a good cause, volunteering is an excellent way to keep busy and make new friends, while boosting confidence. It will also help you to gain new skills and retail experience.
