A new range of cat flaps has just become available which allows cat owners to individually control access for up to 8 cats. There is now a cat flap that recognises each cat in a household individually, with the owner being able to set the time the cats are allowed outside, or inside.
The ‘Elite Super Selective’ and the ‘Elite Selective’ cat flaps use R.F.I.D for electronic pet access. Each cat in the household wears a small lightweight disc, weighing 3g and only 3mm thick – it also doubles as an identification disc. The disc, which has no battery, contains a minute microchip, partnered with a reading device in the cat flap. The technology allows multiple cats in a house to be individually programmed (via the disc), allowing each cat individual access though the cat flap or all cats at a predetermined time. Only cats with the programmed disc can use the cat flap.
‘Elite Super Selective’ is the top of the range, and the first cat flap to feature an LCD display. This display feature shows, at a glance, whether chosen cats are 'in' or 'out' of the house. User-friendly symbols on the LCD display show houses ‘with cats inside’ or ‘without cats inside’. The display also shows exit lock status, time since chosen cat last used the flap and a low battery indicator – it’s really clever! The programme timer on the ‘Elite Super Selective’ allows owners with up to eight cats to keep their cats in the house during the rush hour.
Suggested retail prices for ‘Elite Super Selective’ is £99.95, and for ‘Elite Selective’ £74.95. Two ID discs are included with the ‘Elite Super Selective’ and with the ‘Elite Selective’. Extra I.D discs are sold separately at an RRP of £9.95 each. The range is available through better pet outlets, or by calling Pet Mate on 01932 700 001.
