As National Volunteers’ Week marks its silver anniversary next month (1 – 7 June), PDSA’s 4,800 volunteers are joining in the celebrations and more pet lovers are being urged to join the team.
Parties and other events are taking place in PDSA’s shops during the week thanking the volunteers for all their hard work in helping to save the charity a massive £10.3 million last year in employment costs by donating their time and energy.
“Volunteering is a great way to spend your spare time,” says PDSA Head of Volunteering, Janet Compton. “Not only is it rewarding to know you’re helping raise funds for sick and injured pets, it’s a great way to meet people, improve your employment prospects and learn new skills.
“There is a volunteer role to suit everyone at PDSA, from those with a passion for fashion helping in one of PDSA’s shops, to well-organised fundraisers who arrange local events such as fun dog shows and pub quizzes. Some of our volunteers even go on become members of staff so you never know where volunteering will take you!”
National Volunteers’ Week recognises and rewards existing volunteers and also encourages more people to try volunteering. To find out more about local opportunities with PDSA please call freephone 0800 854 194 or visit www.pdsa.org.uk/volunteering.
PDSA was the first national organisation to achieve the prestigious Investing in Volunteers quality standard. Awarded by Volunteering England, this achievement recognises what PDSA has always known - that volunteers are vital to the charity - and therefore good volunteer management is essential.
