Deep wound

Read more: Cats Health | Comments (0)

Cats sometimes get deep wounds from galvanised iron roofs or catching their skin on a nail. Deep cuts may need stitching so ring your vet for advice.

  • bathe the wound with salt water (1 teaspoon of salt to a pint - 600ml - of warm water) and cotton wool
  • bathe the wound with salt water and cotton wool
  • gently clip back the surrounding fur - putting a dollop of clean Vaseline jelly onto the wound will stop fur contaminating the wound
  • apply a sterile pad over the wound
  • cover the wound with a light dressing of gauze. Cats are difficult to bandage but you must never apply a dressing too tight as you may cut off the blood supply.
