Epilepsy

Comments (0)

Cats can have fits for a variety of reasons. Some cats can have primary epilepsy just like people, but other causes can be after head trauma, poison or liver and kidney disease. Although it is very frightening when your cat has a fit, try not to panic.

  • turn off the lights, radio, TV
  • remove all furniture from the vicinity
  • do not go near your pet's mouth as you may get bitten
  • keep the room warm
  • if your cat is still fitting after 5-10 minutes this is called Status Epilepticus and your pet may need sedation. Contact your vet immediately

Even if your cat has a fit and makes a full recovery, you must take it for a check up with your vet. Your vet may need to perform some blood tests on your cat to investigate the cause of the fitting.
