Epilepsy

Comments (0)

Dogs can have fits for a variety of reasons. Some dogs get primary epilepsy, which often starts at the age of 2-3 years. It can be very frightening when your dog has a fit but try not to panic.

What to do

  • turn off the lights, radio, TV
  • remove all furniture from the vicinity
  • do not go near your pet's mouth as you may get bitten
  • if your dog is still fitting after 5-10 minutes, this is called status epilepticus and your pet may need sedation. Contact your vet
  • take your dog for a full health check within 24 hours
