Question:

Which supplements can I safely give my cats? One of them has a skin problem.

Answer:

It is important you only give vitamin and mineral supplements that have been specially formulated for cats to your cat. If your cat is on a balanced diet and is healthy there is no need to give a supplement. Excess vitamins can be toxic because some are stored in fat and not easily eliminated from the body. Feeding too much liver to your cat may also cause Vitamin A toxicity. Essential fatty acid supplements that contain plant and/or fish oils are available for cats with skin problems. Your vet should be able to advise you. In my opinion, it is more important to give your cat a healthy diet and plenty of opportunities to exercise and behave as a cat, than to give supplements.
