I have recently moved and my cat has developed diarrhoea. Could this be because of the food I give him?

Question:
I have had my cat (who is roughly 10 years old) for about a month and he has continuous weeping eyes, which don’t seem to clear up. He’s currently on eardrops for treating an infection and also appears to have diarrhoea. I only feed him dry food for senior cats, but someone suggested feeding him kitten biscuits, as they may not be so rich. What do you suggest? I know the vet has said his teeth are in quite bad condition – would this be a reason for his diarrhoea?
Answer:
Unfortunately, older cats sometimes have medical problems that need attending to once they are re-homed. Your cat’s diarrhoea may be due to the stress of his coming into a new environment. Make sure he is wormed and continue with the senior diet for now – kitten food will actually be too rich for him. His dental disease will not be the cause for his diarrhoea. If symptoms persist, you will need to consult your vet again.
