My one-year-old bitch seems to be having her second season just four months on from her first – is this normal? Her belly is also covered in dark brown spots – what could they be?

It is not uncommon for a bitch’s first few seasons to be irregular, they certainly do not have to follow the standard six-month frequency. If the seasons continue to be more frequent than twice yearly, a checkup at the veterinary surgery would be necessary. The dark brown spots on her belly could be a bacterial skin infection, which will need antibiotic treatment or topical treatment with a medicated shampoo.
