Foie Gras Should Be Banned Say Britons

Read more: AnimalRights Charity | Comments (0)

Nearly two-thirds of people in Britain (63 per cent) believe foie gras should be banned, according to a new poll commissioned by the RSPCA.

The production of foie gras is not allowed under Britain's animal welfare laws, but it is still imported and sold in the UK and is growing in popularity.

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay recently promoted the cruel foodstuff by serving it in his programme, The F Word, but the programme also featured Janet Street-Porter on a foie gras farm. The RSPCA is hoping her documentary will make people think about foie gras production.

"Foie gras means cruelty," says RSPCA campaign manager, Chloe Alexander. "It is produced from the livers of geese or ducks which have been force-fed unnatural amounts of food to make their livers grotesquely fatty and enlarged. That should be enough to turn anyone's stomach."

Help us get foie gras off the menu

  • don't buy or order foie gras, and encourage friends and family to do the same
  • be brave - if you see foie gras on the menu in a restaurant, speak up and tell the manager you are disappointed they are selling it
  • write a letter to your local newspaper and appeal to other people to boycott foie gras too.
