Really hope someone hase some experience of this skin problem as I could do with some advice.
My 4 year old lurcher has a skin condition which makes his nose peel really badly, just on the fur line. It seems to go in cycles, gradually building up and flaking away in chunks until I need to pull them off sharply. More recently the skin within his nostrils has turned from black to pink.
He is not bothered by it, and it rarely bleeds unless he cuts it in long grass etc. The vets have been very vague ( diet / allergy etc. ) and their only offer has been a biopsy followed by appropriate diagnosis / treatment.
It has been going on long enough now and i feel i need to get to the bottom of it - please help if you have ever seen or heard of anything similar.

Do you have insurance for him?
If so perhaps you should see if it will cover some further investigations. It sounds so distressing for you and must be horrible for him.
I wonder if it is an allergy that could be treated with homeopathy? Some insurance companies will pay for some limited 'alternative' medicine. I think the vet has to refer though. I would go back to your vet and demand some answers.
Let us know how it goes.

thanks laura - i don't have him insured, but am trying an elimination / wheat free diet at the moment - but will be taking a homeopathic approach if it is not successful.

Hope all goes well - perhaps the new diet will be enough.
Fingers crossed.
