We were told we could take him out straight away but not to public places or meet other dogs. We were told 10 - 14 days after second vaccination.

Hi, I also had lots of conflicting advice, some said wait a week, others up to 2 weeks, some said could take to quiet places where no other dogs had been.
I waited 6 days after 2nd vaccination then took Woody to beach after tide had gone out, carrying him over the first bit to get to the sand where no-one had been. He loved it! Personally, this was the only place I could think of where no other dogs had walked and socialising is critical before 16 weeks. Socialising also includes going diferent places, seeing new sights, smelling new scents and hearing new sounds, it's not just about meeting other dogs, animals and humans.
Also, I took him round to friend's houses who had fully vaccinated dogs for him to meet.
To stop your pup nipping I would advise what we did and whenever he even just brushed his teeth over our hands we did a high pitched yelp, stood up and walked away, timing is critical and as with any training you give your pup, you must all be consistant. It worked really quickly. Even now when playing and he nips by mistake, we yelp, play stops and he has a timeout!!!
Good luck with your pup, it's hard work but SOOO worth it!

thanks for advice. i have now taken her out and started scoialising. she has been to other dogs houses and is very good. nipping is becoming less of a problem and we use time out. her main time is when she is tired.
