Hope this is the right forum, but I have a concern over my boxer dog, Chica, who is nearly 10 years old. Over the last few weeks or so she has been constantly thirsty, despite regular access to water. This has been manageable, although a few leaks every now and then, but more recently she has shown increased reluctance to go for a walk - she doesn't like jogging with me any more, and when she does walk she can lag behind. I have done a bit of research into the thirst problem (ie. renal failure, diabetes) but she doesn't seem to show any other symptoms. She is hopeless at the vet's as she is so scared and will bite, hence my reluctance to take her there at the moment. Can anyone suggest what the problem might be, if it is not just down to getting old ?

It does sound like it could be diabetes. I think you need to speak to your vet. Most surgeries will talk to you over the phone initially, so they could ask all the right questions to suggest what it might be before you have to take her in, if she hates it so much. I do think you need some professional advice though. If it is just old age that will put your mind at rest and if it is diabetes it can be treated at home once your vet makes out a prescription for you.
Hope all goes well - let us know what the vet says.
