Calling all roving reporters! PDSA has launched its annual Enid Blyton writing competition, and this year is asking aspiring young writers to pen a newspaper-style article all about animals.
Budding young journalists are in with a chance of winning a visit to a PDSA PetAid hospital, where they will write a report about what it's like to be behind the scenes. This will be published in the charity's children's club magazine, Animal Antics.
Young PDSA Executive, Vicki Craighill, says, "PDSA is encouraging would-be newshounds to get creative and write a story about an interesting encounter with an animal for the Enid Blyton writing competition.
"Has an animal you know done something amazing? Maybe your own pet is a hero, or perhaps you met an unusual animal while on holiday? Whatever your 'tail', we want to hear about it! Visit www.youngpdsa.org.uk today for more details."
The competition has two age categories: 10 and under, and 11 and over. The winner of each category, as well as visiting their local PDSA PetAid hospital, will receive an Enid Blyton writing competition trophy and a PDSA Pet Protectors goodie bag.
The Enid Blyton Trust for Children sponsors the competition, as the legendary author was once 'Queen Bee' of PDSA's first children's club, Busy Bees. During her reign as 'Queen Bee' (1952 - 1968) Blyton encouraged members to look after their animals and raise funds for PDSA. Her philosophy continues today and the PDSA Pet Protectors club teaches young people about animals and pet health in a fun and friendly way.
For an annual fee of £8, members of the PDSA Pet Protectors club receive a personalised membership card, a birthday card, a badge, a free gift and a copy of the fantastic club magazine, Animal Antics, six times a year.
The deadline for the competition is 29 August 2008. Entries are free but children must be a member of the PDSA Pet Protectors club to enter.
